|CAPT Michael Harris
CAPT Michael Harris enlisted into the Navy in 1987 and commissioned 1995. While enlisted, he completed sea duty assignments at CARRIER AIRBORNE EARLY WARNING SQUADRON 117, deploying onboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) and USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72). After his selection under the Enlisted Commissioning Program, CAPT Harris attended Iowa State University where he received a BBA in Finance.
CAPT Harris assumed command of USS GREEN BAY (LPD 20), homeported in Sasebo, Japan, on 21 June 2019; after serving as the Executive Officer.
CAPT Harris’ initial sea assignments following commissioning included: Main Propulsion Division Officer and Auxiliaries Officer onboard USS COWPENS (CG 63); and Assistant Staff Operations Officer at AMPHIBIOUS SQUADRON THREE deploying onboard USS TARAWA (LHA 1) and USS BON HOMME RICHARD (LHD 6). CAPT Harris’ Department Head tours were as Chief Engineer, USS KLAKRING (FFG 42) and as the Material and Readiness Officer for Destroyer Squadron FOURTEEN. CAPT Harris earned his Masters of Science in 2002 from Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. and Masters of Arts from Naval War College in Newport, R.I. Other shore duty assignments included Staff Operations Officer at NATO Allied Component Command, Engineering and Material Readiness Instructor for Surface Warfare Officer’s School, and Senior Assessor Engineering Assessments Pacific.
CAPT Harris completed his Executive Officer tour and assumed Command, 6 July 2012, of USS PEARL HARBOR (LSD 52). Following command, CAPT Harris reported to Commander Amphibious Task Force Seventh Fleet in Okinawa, Japan completing 4 deployments on USS BON HOMME RICHARD (LHD 6) and USS PELEILU (LHA 5) in the Seventh Fleet AOR.
CAPT Harris’ personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, as well as the Expert Pistol and Rifle Medals.
