Command Master Chief

Command Master Chief Sean Snyder was raised in Binghamton, New York. He signed up for the Delayed Entry Program in September, 1988, and commenced active duty in March, 1989.

Master Chief Snyder began his Naval career at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes in March 1989. Upon graduation from “Boot Camp”, he entered Operations Specialist (OS) “A” School in Dam Neck, Virginia from May to August 1989. He reported to his first Command, USS VANDEGRIFT (FFG 48) in August 1989 at the rank of Operations Specialist Seaman Recruit. He completed several Arabian Gulf deployments in support of Operation Earnest Will, Desert Shield, and Desert Storm while assigned to VANDEGRIFT, departing in May 1996 as a 2nd Class Petty Officer to report to his first shore duty assignment.

He reported to FLEET ANTI-SUBMARINE WARFARE Training Center, Pacific in May 1996, as an Anti-Submarine Tactical Air Controller (ASTAC) instructor and advanced to First Class Petty Officer. He was assigned Night Leading Petty Officer from 1996 through 1999. In May, 1999, Petty Officer Snyder transferred back to sea duty onto USS Wadsworth (FFG 9) stationed in San Diego, California.

Onboard WADSWORTH he made his first Counter Drug Deployment in support of the war on International Drug Trading. Master Chief Snyder earned his certification as Afloat Training Specialist (ATS) while filling collateral duties as Integrated Training Team and Combat Systems Training team Tactical Coordinator. He advanced to Chief Petty Officer in 2000, and transferred to USS CURTS (FFG 38).

Master Chief Snyder conducted his first Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) deployment onboard CURTS, in 2000, and a second Counter Drug Deployment (CD OPS) in 2002.

In May 2003, he transferred to shore duty at Afloat Training Group, Pacific (ATGPAC) as an ASW Trainer, where he advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer. At ATGPAC he was assigned as a Combat Systems Team Leader and USW Team Leader at ATGPAC. He transferred to PRECOMMUNIT KIDD (DDG 100) in June 2006.

He commissioned KIDD and was selected as Command Senior Chief onboard due to an unplanned loss shortly after her commissioning in Galveston Texas. While assigned, he completed the initial deployment to San Diego in 2007 from Pascagoula Mississippi and a deployment to Seventh Fleet in 2009. His follow-on tour was Command Senior Chief of MCM Crew SWERVE in September, 2009.

Master Chief Snyder served as MCM Crew SWERVE’s Command Senior Chief on USS SENTRY (MCM 3), USS GLADIATOR(MCM 11) and USS DEVASTATOR(MCM 6). He completed one deployment to 5th Fleet on GLADIATOR and advanced to Master Chief in 2010.

He reported to USS BENFOLD (DDG 65) in April, 2011 as the Command Master Chief, deploying to Fifth Fleet in 2012. He completed his tour on BENFOLD and reported to Assault Craft Unit ONE (ACU 1) in November 2014.

Master Chief Snyder detached from ACU-1 and reported to USS NEW ORLEANS (LPD 18) in February 2019.

Master Chief Snyder’s personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (seven awards), Navy Achievement Medal (six awards), CY 2008 NMCA Leadership award as well as various unit and campaign awards.
