Command Master Chief - Gold Crew

Master Chief Bernal, a native of El Paso, Texas, enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1994. Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois he reported to Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois where he completed Engineman “A” school and followed by Engineman “C” school.

Upon graduation, he reported for duty onboard USS Brunswick (ATS 3), Sasebo, Japan; and designated as a diesel mechanic. His fleet assignments include: USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43), Sasebo, Japan; USS Heron (MHC 52), Ingleside, Texas; USS Raven (MHC 61 ), Bahrain; USS Falcon (MHC 59 ), Ingleside, Texas; USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), Norfolk, Virginia, and Naval Special Warfare Unit ONE, Guam.

Bernal’s shore assignments include Port Operations, Sasebo, Japan; and two tours at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.

His current assignment is command master chief, USS Montgomery (LCS 8) Gold Crew.

His decorations include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
