|CDR Matthew P. Richter
Commanding Officer - Gold Crew
Cmdr. Richter was born in Mansfield, Ohio. He enlisted as an undesignated seaman in the United States Navy in 1993. In 1998, he was selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program and attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk. In 2001, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and was commissioned.
Richter completed several operational and staff tours. At sea, he completed two division officer tours aboard USS Gettysburg (CG 64) as the damage control assistant and electronic warfare officer. As a department head he was assigned as operations officer aboard USS De Wert (FFG 45) and Destroyer Squadron 1. Richter completed his executive officer fleet-up tour aboard USS Montgomery (LCS 8) Gold.
Ashore, he served as the chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear requirements officer at OPNAV N96 working in close collaboration with the Joint Requirements Office and Joint Program Executive Office. He was later assigned a General Services Administration tour, serving as both deputy commander of Provincial Reconstruction Team Farah and executive officer of Forward Operating Base in Farah Province, Afghanistan. In his last shore tour, he served as the deputy operational support officer and flag secretary at U.S. 3rd Fleet.
In 2006, he graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California earning a M.B.A. with a focus in Manpower Systems Analysis and a Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase 1 diploma through the Naval War College.
His current assignment is commanding officer of USS Montgomery (LCS 8) Gold Crew.
His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Army Commendation Medal and several other unit and personal awards.
