CDR Matt Scarlett
Commanding Officer

A native of Ohio, Cmdr. Matt Scarlett earned his commission in 1998 through Officer Candidate School.

Scarlett’s initial sea tour was aboard USS Detroit (AOE-4) where he served as Auxiliaries Officer. Future assignments included tours as Assistant Operations officer aboard USS Cowpens (CG-63); engineer officer for MCM Crew Fearless; Commanding Officer of Patrol Coastal Crew Charlie, Flag Secretary for Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet, and Commanding Officer of Littoral Combat Ship Crew 206 aboard USS Manchester (LCS 14).

Ashore he served as cargo officer at Military Sealift Command Europe, in Naples, Italy. His most recent shore tour was as the Far East Maritime Intelligence Analyst at the Ministry of Defence, London, United Kingdom.

He holds a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biochemistry from Ohio State University and a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, graduating with highest distinction.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (second award), the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (third award), the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal (third award) and various unit and campaign medals.
