CDR Rion W. Martin
Commanding Officer (Gold Crew)

CDR Rion W. Martin, a native of Diamond Bar, California graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2002, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. His sea duty assignments include serving as electrical division officer aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), operations officer on USS Pelican (MHC 53), chief engineer on USS Pinckney (DDG 91), executive officer on USS Ardent (MCM 12) and commanding officer aboard USS Sentry (MCM 3).
 
Ashore, Martin earned a Master of Professional Studies degree in leadership, education and development from the University of Maryland to serve as a Company Officer and Leadership Instructor at the United States Naval Academy.  He also served as the current operations officer for the Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center Mine Warfare Command Battle Staff, and most recently as the senior officer ship material readiness course deputy and instructor at Surface Warfare Officer School (SWOS) in Newport, Rhode Island. 
 His current assignment is commanding officer, USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10) Gold crew. 
 Martin’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various other campaign, personal and unit commendation awards.
