CDR Richard J. Zamberlan  
Executive Officer (May 2017 - February 2019)

Commander Richard J. Zamberlan is a 2001 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. Additionally, he holds a master's degree in Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School.

His initial sea tours were on USS Elliot (DD 967) as strike and legal officer, where he decommissioned her to conduct Sea Swap aboard USS Fletcher (DD 992) and execute her final Arabian Gulf deployment. He next served on USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60) as fire control and ballistic missile defense officer. He was then assigned as an individual augmentee to Baghdad, Iraq in 2006 to MNC-I Operations branch serving out of Al Faw palace. In 2010, he reported to USS Momsen (DDG 92), as operations officer and reported to Destroyer Squadron Nine as operations officer in 2012.

During his enlistment, he was proud to serve aboard USS Anzio (CG 68) as a deck seamen.

His shore tours include Deputy Director of Management, DNS-3, on the OPNAV Staff from 2013 to 2015.

He previously commanded USS SQUALL (PC-7) from JUL2015-FEB2017; USS Squall was PCRON ONE 2016 Battle “E” winner.

May 2017, CDR Zamberlan assumed the role of XO of USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19) in Yokosuka, Japan.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three gold stars) and various other personal, unit and service awards.
