Executive Officer (October 2010- October 2012)

Commander Fitzgearld attended Boot Camp at Naval Training Center, San Diego, in 1985. He then completed Fire Controlman rating and Close in Weapons System (CIWS) Operations and Maintenance training in 1987. As a CIWS technician, he served at sea on board USS JOHN A. MOORE (FFG 19) and USS TARAWA (LHA 1), and ashore as a CIWS instructor at Fleet Training Center San Diego.

Commander Fitzgearld graduated from San Diego State University in 1995 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.

His sea tours include: USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG 53) as the Damage Control Assistant, USS ESSEX (LHD 2) as the Fire Control Officer, USS McCAMPBELL (DDG 85) as the Weapons and Combat Systems Officer, and USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74) as the Assistant Combat Direction Center Officer.

Commander Fitzgearld served ashore at the Allied Maritime Command in Naples, Italy as a Joint Operational Planner and Plans Liaison Officer to Joint Forces Command Naples, and Commander Sixth Fleet. Additionally, in 2009 he supported North Atlantic Treaty Organization while serving as an advisor to the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

Commander Fitzgearld holds a Master of Science degree in Space Systems Operations.

Commander Fitzgearld’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Defense Commendation Medal, Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 Awards), Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 Awards), and the Navy Good Conduct Medal (2 Awards).
