CDR Crooks is a native of San Diego, California. He was commissioned via the NROTC program at the George Washington University in Washington, DC in 2001. His previous sea tours include Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer in USS KINKAID (DD 965) and USS FLETCHER (DD 992), Training Officer in USS STETHEM (DDG 63), Flag Lieutenant to Commander, RONALD REAGAN Carrier Strike Group, Operations Officer in USS HOPPER (DDG 70), and Operations Officer in USS COWPENS (CG 63).
He served ashore as a Navy liaison officer to the US Senate, on the staff of the Director, Navy Staff, and as a special assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations in the CNO Strategic Actions Group (N00Z).
He completed a master's degree in National Security and Strategic Studies at the Naval War College in February, 2008. His most recent shore assignment was an exchange tour with the Royal Navy, during which he served as a maritime capability analyst for United Kingdom Defense Intelligence in London.CDR Crooks assumed duties as Commanding Officer in USS HALSEY (DDG 97) in November, 2019.
