Command Master Chief

A native of Mountain Iron, Minnesota, Master Chief Nicholas Prebeg graduated from Mountain Iron – Buhl High School, Class of 1997. He enlisted in the United States Navy through the Delayed Entry Program and reported to Recruit Training Command Great Lakes in August 1997.

Master Chief Prebeg attended Cryptologic Technician (Collection) “A” school in Pensacola, Florida and reported to his first duty station, Naval Security Group Activity Rota, Spain, in June 1998. In June 2002, he reported to Navy Recruiting District Minneapolis, Minnesota, and served as Recruiter-in-Charge of Navy Recruiting Station Hibbing where he was advanced to First Class Petty Officer through the Recruiter Excellence Incentive Program. In June 2005, he reported to Navy Information Operations Command Georgia and served as an Airborne Cryptologic Direct Support Element Operator during three detachments in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. He was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in September 2008.

In August of 2009, Master Chief Prebeg reported to Naval Special Warfare Support Activity ONE where he served as a Tactical Electronic Warfare Operator and Detachment Chief on two deployments, supporting various Naval Special Warfare and Joint Special Operations units throughout Afghanistan. He subsequently served as the Special Reconnaissance Team ONE Tactical Information Operations Department Leading Chief Petty Officer and Command Senior Enlisted Advisor. He was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer in April 2015.

Master Chief Prebeg was selected into the Command Master Chief Program in February 2016 and was awarded Honor Graduate of Senior Enlisted Academy Class 194. He reported to his current assignment as Command Master Chief of the USS CHAFEE (DDG-90) in June 2016.

His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (two awards), Air Medal (two Strike/Flight awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), Combat Action Ribbon, and various unit and campaign awards. His designations include Information Dominance Warfare Specialist, Expeditionary Warfare Specialist, Air Warfare Specialist, Naval Aircrew Warfare Specialist, and Navy and Marine Corps Parachutist.
