Commander John A. Bowman
Commanding Officer (April 2016 - July 2017)

Commander Bowman assumed the duties as Commanding Officer, USS PREBLE (DDG 88) in April 2016. A native of Hutchinson, Kansas, Commander Bowman enlisted in 1993 and received his commission through the U.S. Naval Academy in 1998.

His at sea assignments include Main Propulsion Division Officer in USS SHILOH (CG 67), Navigator in USS RUSHMORE (LSD 47), Chief Engineer in USS CURTS (FFG 38), Gas Turbine Engineering Assessor in Engineering Assessments Pacific, and Executive Officer in USS PREBLE (DDG 88).

Ashore, he served an Individual Augmentation to the 165th Quartermaster Group, 1st Theater Sustainment Command (forward) as the Responsible Officer for Cedar II Tactical Petroleum Terminal in An Nasiriyah, Iraq, and as a Future Forces Analyst, the Executive Assistant to the Director, and a Programming Officer in the Resources and Assessment Directorate (J8) at Headquarters, U.S. Pacific Command, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii.

Commander Bowman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering conferred from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Additionally, he holds a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and an Executive Master of Business Administration degree, both conferred from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
