|CDR Jerry Jackson
Commander Jerry Jackson, a native of Huntington Beach, CA, was commissioned upon graduating Oregon State University through ROTC. He is also a graduate of the Naval War College. At sea, Jackson’s first Division Officer tour was in USS SAMUEL ELIOT MORISON (FFG 13) as the Auxiliaries and Electrical Officer before taking part in a crew swap to USS ESTOCIN (FFG 15). His second Division Officer tour was in USS SHOUP (DDG 86) where he served as the Anti-Submarine Officer and Force Protection Officer.
Jackson’s Department Head tours were as the Chief Engineer in USS STERETT (DDG 104) and USS CHANCELLORSVILLE (CG 62). He also served as the Flag Secretary for the CARL VINSON Carrier Strike Group. He was the Executive Officer and later fleeted up to Commanding Officer for USS SAMPSON (DDG 102). He was the Assistant Operations Officer for Carrier Strike Group THREE before reporting as Commanding Officer of USS DECATUR (DDG 73). He has completed nine deployments at sea that have included operations in the Arabian Gulf, Eastern Pacific and with the Standing NATO Fleet.
Ashore, Jackson served as the Navy Liaison Officer to I Marine Expeditionary Force where he deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was also a planner for the Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Division in the Strategic Stability Directorate of the Joint Staff Strategy, Policy and Plans Directorate.
Jackson’s awards include the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit and service awards.
