Executive Officer (April 2013 - September 2014)

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Commander Barsano received his commission from Officer Candidate School in 1997. He holds a Bachelor in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and Marketing from the University of San Diego.

CDR Barsano’s sea tours include serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. His operational division officer and department head assignments include duty as Ordnance/Gunnery Officer on USS CROMMELIN (FFG 37) and Main Propulsion Assistant on USS PORT ROYAL (CG 73). As a department head, he served as Engineering Officer on USS RUSSELL (DDG 59). CDR Barsano commanded USS HURRICANE (PC 3), USS FIREBOLT (PC 10), and USS WHIRLWIND (PC 11) home ported in Little Creek, Virginia and Manama, Bahrain with Patrol Coastal Crew HOTEL.

Ashore, CDR Barsano earned a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College and completed the Joint Professional Military Education and Training Phase I. He is a graduate of the Asia-Pacific Security Center for Security Studies at the DOD academic institute in Honolulu, Hawaii. He also served as Theater ASW Operations and Plans Officer on the staff of Commander, ASW Forces THIRD Fleet, in COMSUBPAC.

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards) and various campaign, service, and unit ribbons. He is most proud of the 2009 Battle Efficiency Award while in early command as it represents the focused efforts and unit achievements of the entire crew.
