|CDR Mark W. Lawrence
Executive Officer (August 2017 - April 2019)
CDR Mark Lawrence grew up in London, England, and Chappaqua, New York. He graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in International Politics from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
At sea, CDR Lawrence served in USS ANZIO (CG 68) as Gunnery Officer, Combat Information Center Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer. His final assignment onboard ANZIO was as Air Defense Officer during THEODORE ROOSEVELT Strike Group’s 2003 surge deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf for Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. CDR Lawrence completed his department head tours in USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CG 57) as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer, during which time the ship served as Air Defense Commander for RONALD REAGAN Strike Group’s 2007 Western Pacific surge deployment and as Sea Combat Commander for BOXER Amphibious Ready Group’s 2009 deployment to the Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf.
Ashore, CDR Lawrence has served in several capacities in the Strategy and Policy branch of the OPNAV Staff, at U.S. THIRD FLEET headquarters, and as the speechwriter to the 29th Chief of Naval Operations. He has been assigned to the Center for Naval Analyses, the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Policy), and as a Federal Executive Fellow to the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He most recently served as the Director for NATO and European Strategic Affairs on the National Security Council in The White House.
CDR Lawrence earned a Master of Arts in Security Studies with Honors at Georgetown, and completed Joint Professional Military Education (Phase I) with distinction through the U.S. Naval War College.
