Command Master Chief (May 2014 - April 2016)

Master Chief Hurdle enlisted in the Navy in November 1988 under the delayed entry program and completed Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL. After completing Basic Enlisted Submarine School in Groton, CT and SK “A” school in Meridian, MI he reported to the USS PUFFER (SSN 652) home ported in San Diego, Ca. After a split tour onboard PUFFER he transferred to USS TOPEKA (SSN 754) where he subsequently was advanced to Second Class Petty Officer. Upon completion of his tour he transferred to Commander Submarine Pacific Representative Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, CA for independent duty followed by a tour at Deep Submergence Unit San Diego, CA. In 1997 he reported to the USS CHICAGO (SSN 721) home ported in Pearl Harbor, HI where he was promoted to First Class Petty Officer. In June of 2000 he again reported to Deep Submergence Unit where he was assigned as the Supply Department Leading Petty Officer where he earned two consecutive Supply Blue “E” excellence awards.

In June of 2003 he transferred onboard USS Topeka (SSN 754) where he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer. During his tour he completed a Western Pacific Deployment and was transferred to USS SALT LAKE CITY (SSN 716) to fill a gapped Supply Department Chief Billet. While onboard he completed a North Run and subsequently surfaced through the Ice at the North Pole.

In June 2006 he reported onboard Commander Submarine Development Group Five Detachment, San Diego where he was assigned as the Supply Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. Additionally, he was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer. Following the decommissioning of the detachment he assumed the duties as the Command Senior Chief at Deep Submergence Unit.

In August 2009 he reported to SPAWAR Pacific as a RSUPPLY Analyst. After a short tour he terminated shore duty and reported to USS ASHEVILLE (SSN 758) as 3M Coordinator in September 2010. Onboard ASHEVILLE he completed his Chief of the Boat qualification and then was assigned to USS TOPEKA (SSN 754) as Chief of the Boat from March 2011 to April 2014. His tour was highlighted by numerous unit and individual accomplishments as well as the advancement to Master Chief Petty Officer.

Master Chief Hurdle is a recipient of various personal and campaign awards including the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (7 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards). Master Chief hails from Sacramento, Ca.
