Command Master Chief (May 2016 - December 2017)
Master Chief Petty Officer Walker is a native of England, Arkansas. He has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Saint Leo University in 2004 and a Master’s degree in Counseling from Webster University in 2013. He enlisted into the delayed entry program in November 1993 and completed Basic Training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois in February 1994 and followed on to complete Apprenticeship Training in April 1994. As an undesignated Seaman Recruit in May 1994, he reported to his first command the USS YELLOWSTONE (AD 41) in Norfolk, Virginia.
Master Chief Walker cross-rated into the DC community in 1995 and was promoted to Damage Controlman 3rd Class Petty Officer. Upon the decommissioning of the USS YELLOWSTONE (AD 41), he reported to Basic Engineering Training in Great Lakes, Illinois and followed on to DC “A” school in San Francisco, California in February 1996. In May 1996, Master Chief Walker reported to USS CARON (DD 970) in Norfolk, Virginia where he advanced to Damage Controlman 2nd Class Petty Officer.
In May 1999, Master Chief Walker reported for duty onboard USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67) in Mayport, Florida. After a successful tour, he reported to Chemical Biological Radiological Defense School in Fort Leonardwood, Missouri in March 2001.
Upon completing Instructor Training in Pensacola, Florida, he reported to Fleet Training Center, Mayport, Florida July 2001 where he qualified as a Master Training Specialist. During this tour, Master Chief Walker advanced to Damage Controlman 1st Class Petty Officer and Chief Damage Controlman.
In March 2006, Master Chief Walker reported to Afloat Training Group in Mayport, Florida where he received the Afloat Training Specialist designator.
In April 2008, he reported to USS CARNEY (DDG 64) as LCPO for Repair Division and Safety Officer. While onboard, he received his Engineering Officer of the Watch qualification. During this period USS CARNEY was awarded two consecutive Battle Efficiency Awards, the CNO’s Safety Award and the Battenberg Cup for the best all-around ship in the Atlantic Fleet.
In 2011, he reported to Surface Warfare Officer School Command Learning Site, Mayport, Florida as the Senior Enlisted Leader. While onboard, he advanced to Senior Chief Damage Controlman and was selected into the Command Senior Chief program (Khaki 168).
In 2014, after completing Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 130), he reported to the USNS MERCY (T-AH 19). While onboard MERCY, Master Chief Walker deployed in support of Rim of Pacific 2014 and Pacific Partnership 2015 and 2016.
In 2016, he reported to USS JOHN S. MCCAIN (DDG-56) where he served as the Command Master Chief.
Master Chief Walker’s personal decoration includes Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (3), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals (2), Outstanding Military Volunteer Service Medal (2), and various unit and campaign awards.
