Commanding Officer (October 2013 - May 2015)

Commander Sargeant is a native of Lakeland, Florida. He graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, in 1996 with a degree in Maritime Transportation.

After attending the Surface Warfare Division Officer’s Course, Commander Sargeant completed his division officer tours aboard USS GUNSTON HALL (LSD 44) as the Main Propulsion Division Officer and USS CHOSIN (CG 65) as the Assistant Operations Officer.

Following his division officer tours, Commander Sargeant was assigned to the Navy Personnel Command (PERS 41) in Millington, Tennessee where he served both as a Surface Warfare Junior Officer Detailer and Assistant Surface Warfare Community Analyst. During this tour, he earned a Master of Science degree in Operations Management from the University of Arkansas.

After Department Head School in Newport, Rhode Island, he was assigned as Operations Officer in USS DONALD COOK (DDG 75) where he deployed with the THEODORE ROOSEVELT Strike Group to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM, and to the Horn of Africa in support of counter-piracy efforts.

His second department head tour was as Operations Officer in USS LAKE ERIE (CG 70) where the ship was assigned as the Navy’s ballistic missile defense operational test ship.

Following his department head tours, Commander Sargeant completed a Global War on Terror Support Assignment to U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida, where he served as an action officer in the Current Operations Maritime Division, Operations Directorate. He later served as the Ballistic Missile Defense Policy and Strategy Action Officer for the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations Staff, Operations, Plans and Strategy Division.

Commander Sargeant most recently served as Executive Officer in USS JOHN S. McCAIN (DDG 56) from April 2012 to September 2013.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), the Joint Achievement Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
