Commanding Officer (May 2015 - September 2016)
Commander Chad Graham is a native of Whittier, California. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy in May 1998. He is a 2004 graduate of the Naval Post Graduate School, where he obtained a Masters degree in Systems Engineering and Analysis. His first sea duty tour was Electrical Officer onboard USS MCCLUSKY (FFG 41) from February 1999 to March 2001. His next sea duty tour was onboard USS ZEPHYR (PC-8) as Operations Officer and Executive Officer from April 2001 to December 2002. He served as Operations Officer onboard USS HOWARD (DDG 83) from May 2005 to August 2006 and as Operations Officer onboard USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CG 57) from October 2006 to April 2008. From August 2013 until May 2015 he served as Executive Officer onboard USS JOHN S McCAIN (DDG 56).
Commander Graham’s shore duty assignment includes serving as a student at the Naval Post Graduate School from January 2003 to June 2004. From May of 2008 to June of 2010 he was assigned to the OPNAV Staff (N86) as a Ballistic Missile Defense Requirements Officer and also served as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Director for Surface Combat Systems and Weapons (N86F). From July 2010 until January 2013 he served on the Joint Staff as an action officer in the J-5 (Western Hemisphere) directorate. On May 28, 2015, Commander Graham assumed command of USS JOHN S. McCAIN (DDG 56).
Commander Graham has been awarded the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 3 Gold Stars and the Navy Achievement Medal with 2 Gold Stars.
