USS Barry
Strength and Diversity
Congratulations on your orders to USS BARRY (DDG 52)! You are joining an outstanding crew and a proud ship. BARRY is equipped with the most advanced weapons and surveillance systems in the world, and has the hottest running crew in the fleet.

BARRY is home ported in Yokosuka, Japan. As a member of Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet’s Forward Deployed Naval Forces (FDNF), you can expect a busy operational schedule throughout the Western Pacific. You can also expect a very rewarding tour onboard.

Your sponsor will arrange to have you picked up at airport upon arrival. In the event that a BARRY Sailor is unable to provide transportation, Personnel Support Detachment (PSD) runs a bus that departs from Narita civilian airport to Fleet Activities Yokosuka at 1500, 1730, and 1900 on a daily basis. Check in for bus transportation is at the Military Liaison Desk located at Terminal 1 information counter. The bus ride is approximately two to three hours and will drop you of at PSD Yokosuka.

There is also transportation provided from Yokota Air Force Base to PSD Yokosuka. It is important that you keep your sponsor updated on your exact arrival information so that the command can provide transportation.

If the ship is out to sea, the bus will drop you off at PSD. PSD will direct you to Transient Personnel Unit (TPU) for check in. If you are single (E6 and junior), TPU will provide berthing assignment for you. If you are E7 and senior (Single or married with family members), you will proceed to the Navy Lodge. If there are rooms unavailable for single E7 and senior, a Certificate of Non-Availability (CNA) will be issued prior to Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ) assignment. Service members with family must check in at the Family Assistance Support Team (F.A.S.T.) office and housing office. F.A.S.T. will require copies of documents necessary for the welfare of your family members. They will also provide a helpful family folder. If the ship is at sea, and time permits prior to its return, proceed to the family service center at PSD and enroll in the one week “Area Orientation Brief/Intercultural Relations” class (AOB/ICR).

Sailors that would like to get in contact with our ombudsman can call (757) 281-7030 or For E4 and senior Sailors moving their dependents to Yokosuka, Japan, please contact our Japan ombudsman  at Per regulations, E-3 and junior are not authorized to move their family members to Japan.

Your new mailing address will be: Rate/Rank Full Name (Assigned division) USS BARRY (DDG 52) FPO AP 96692

The local base newspaper is an excellent source of information and is available at various locations on base.

U.S. money can be exchanged for yen at the community bank in PSD, at the O-Club, Chief’s Club, and Enlisted Club Alliance. Both dollars and yen are acceptable for getting on-base taxi and you can claim your initial on-base taxi ride in your travel claim.

Again, welcome aboard, Shipmate! Checking into Yokosuka is a very busy time. However, as a member of the BARRY Bulldog Family, you are not alone. We will do everything we can to help make it a smooth transition.

Strength and Diversity!
