USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115)
"Fortis ad Finem"

Peralta Returns
ddg115

During the first underway following the one-year anniversary, USS RAFAEL PERALTA proudly flew a customized flag to honor Sgt. Rafael Peralta (IMG_Ship in Harbor).  The flag is red to represent the service he proudly served in, the United States Marine Corps.  The flag has the term "LAVA DOGS" displayed, which is the nickname for the 1st Battalion, 3rd Division Marines, the unit to which Sgt. Peralta was attached.  The crew onboard the ship has also taken on that nickname. Most of the flag is taken up by a large Aztec war eagle, which is the same eagle that is on the ship's crest.  Sgt. Peralta often referred to himself as a "war eagle," and it also represents his Aztec heritage (IMG_Ship with Flag).  This ship will continue to fly this flag in remembrance of a true American hero.
