AT SEA – Sailors aboard guided-missile destroyer USS William P. Lawrence (DDG 110) kick off Military Saves Week by conducting financial training, Feb. 25-Mar. 2.

Military Saves Week is part of the year-long Military Saves Campaign. It is an opportunity for leaders to stress the importance of good financial habits to all military members and their families. The campaign encourages military members to save money, reduce debt and build wealth.

“Financial stability is important to a Sailors’ career for many reasons, including maintaining low stress levels,” said Fire Controlman 1st Class Jenny Lam, one of William P. Lawrence’s financial specialists.

During Military Saves Week, a different topic will be covered in an effort to provide financial awareness to Sailors.

“I find the financial trainings very rewarding,” said Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Joseph Richards. “I always learn something new that will benefit me and I can take what I have learned and share it with my junior Sailors.”

Along with the training, different financial tips are posted in the plan of the day for all Sailors to read.

“Hopefully, the tips will make Sailors think more about their finances,” said Lam.

William P. Lawrence is deployed as part of Nimitz Strike Group Surface Action Group, which consists of USS Stockdale (DDG 108), USS Higgins (DDG 76), USS Shoup (DDG 86) and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 23, to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility promoting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts.
