A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Commander Leos joined the Navy in 1995. He is a 2001 graduate of San Diego State University NROTC. Additionally, he attended the Naval Postgraduate School where he earned an MBA in Financial Management and the Defense Language Institute where he studied Mandarin Chinese. Commander Leos was the Navy’s Federal Executive Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution for the 2016-2017 Academic Year.
Commander Leos' sea duty assignments include Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer in USS FLETCHER (DD 992), Navigator in USS HOPPER (DDG 70), Weapons and Combat Systems Officer in USS CHOSIN (CG 65), and Executive Officer of the Mine Sweeper USS ARDENT (MCM 12). He commanded USS CHIEF (MCM 14), USS GLADIATOR (MCM 11), and USS SCOUT (MCM 8). He has deployed six times to the Indo-Pacific and Arabian Gulf including four Strike Group deployments.
Ashore, Commander Leos has served as the Director of Training at Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific and as the Flag Aide to the Commander of the United States Pacific Fleet.
Commander Leos assumed command of USS STOCKDALE (DDG 106) in November 2018.
