CAPT Mark A. Truluck
Commanding Officer (September 2012 - July 2014)

CAPT Mark A. Truluck is a native of Hall County, Georgia and a graduate of North Georgia College and State University. In 1989, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and received his commission from Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida. Captain Truluck reported to Naval Aviation Schools Command in Milton, Florida and was designated a Naval Aviator in December 1990.

In December 1991, he completed training in the SH-60F/HH-60H at Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron TEN, NAS North Island, Ca. and reported to Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron THREE assigned to Carrier Airwing EIGHT. During this tour, he completed two Mediterranean and Red Sea/Arabian Gulf deployments onboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71).

Following his initial sea tour, Captain Truluck was assigned to the "Sea Horses" of Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron ONE in September 1995 as a Fleet Replacement Squadron instructor pilot in the SH-60F/HH-60H.

In June 1997, Captain Truluck reported to Carrier Air Wing EIGHT where he served as the Antisubmarine Warfare and Combat Search and Rescue Officer. During his Air Wing staff tour, he deployed to the Mediterranean and Red Sea/Arabian Gulf onboard the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) in 1997 and again onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) in 1999. Completing his tour in June 1999, he reported to the U.S. Air Force Air Command and Staff College in Montgomery, Alabama. There he earned his Masters in Foreign Affairs. During the same tour, he graduated from Auburn University with a Masters in Public Administration.

Captain Truluck returned to Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron THREE in December 2000 and as a Squadron Department Head deployed to the Mediterranean and Red Sea/Arabian Gulf onboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He served as Aviation Safety Officer, head of the Training Department and finally Maintenance Department Head.

In November 2002, Captain Truluck reporting next to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (NSAWC), as the Helicopter Warfare Branch Head and the following to the Seahawk Weapons and Tactics School as the Assistant Department Head and SH-60F/HH-60H Flight and Tactics instructor.

Captain Truluck graduated from the Joint Forces Staff College, Norfolk VA in November of 2005 and reported as the Executive Officer of HS-3 later that year. Captain Truluck deployed the Indian Ocean / Arabian Gulf onboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) in 2008 and served as Commanding Officer of Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron THREE from September 2007 to December 2008. During his tour as Commanding Officer, the squadron was awarded the Naval Air Forces Battle “E”, Safety “S”, and Captain Arnold Jay Isbell Trophy for ASW excellence for 2008.

Following his Command tour, Captain Truluck was assigned to the Navy Personnel Command, Millington TN as the Helicopter CDR Detailer and the Assistant Aviation CAPT Detailer in PERS-43. In September 2011, Captain Truluck reported for joint assignment to Headquarters, United States Special Operation Command at MacDill AFB, FL and served as the Deputy Director of Training, Doctrine, and Capability Development Directorate (J7/9) until August 2012.

In September 2012, Captain Truluck reported to Commander, Mine Countermeasures Squadron SEVEN in Sasebo, Japan.

During his career, Captain Truluck has accumulated over 4,700 flight hours. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various campaign, unit, and sea service-related awards.
