CAPT Peter S. Kim
Commanding Officer


Captain Kim was raised in Riverdale, New York, and received his commission from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1996. He holds a master’s degree from the U.S. Naval War College.

He deployed six times in support of operations in the Middle East, Western Pacific, South America, and Northern Europe. His initial sea tours included USS DENVER (LPD 9), USS THOMAS S GATES (CG 51), and USS MILIUS (DDG 69). After serving as the Commissioning Executive Officer, he commanded USS CORONADO (LCS 4) and successfully completed Initial Operational Test and Evaluation of the INDEPENDENCE Variant LCS. He also served as Surface Operations Officer on the staff of Carrier Strike Group ONE (CSG 1) embarked on USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70).

Ashore, he served as Flag Aide to Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea, as Executive Assistant to the Deputy Director for Politico-Military Affairs (Europe, NATO, Russia, and Africa) on the Joint Staff (J5), and as Branch Head for Doctrine and Tactics Development (N5) at Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center Headquarters.

His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (three awards), and other unit and campaign awards.
