CAPT Chris Cegielski

A 1992 graduate of The Citadel and a native of Cheektowaga, New York, Captain Cegielski earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He also earned a Master of Science degree in Applied Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1999 and a Master of Science degree in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University’s Dwight D. Eisenhower School in 2013. Additionally, he has also obtained Level III DAWIA certification in Program Management from the Defense Acquisition University.

At sea, he served as 1st Lieutenant and Auxiliaries Officer in USS KLAKRING (FFG 42); Fire Control Officer in USS MITSCHER (DDG 57); Weapons Officer, Combat Systems Officer and Operations Officer in USS COWPENS (CG 63), and Executive Officer of USS SHILOH (CG 67). As commanding officer of USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG 53), he led the ship through the first-ever DDG Modernization availability and a subsequent independent deployment to the Persian Gulf.

Ashore, Captain Cegielski has served as the Theater Air and Missile Defense Analyst within the Analysis, Programming, and Integration division (N70) on the Chief of Naval Operations Staff; and as the Program Manager for CENTRIXS-M within PMW-160 on the Staff of the Program Executive Office (PEO) for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I). Returning to the Pentagon, he served as the Missile Defense Branch Chief, Reconnaissance Space and Missile Defense Division, Deputy Directorate for Nuclear, Homeland Defense and Current Operations, Operations Directorate (J-3) on the Joint Staff.

Captain Cegielski has earned the Joint Meritorius Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (five awards), the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards) and the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and proudly wears the Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Battle Efficiency ribbon, US Coast Guard Unit Commendation w/ “O” for Operational Excellence, the US Coast Guard Special Operations ribbon, and various other campaign awards.
