Command Master Chief Beda V. Santiago graduated high school and college at the University of the Assumption, Philippines, enlisting in the Navy in August 1988 at Navy Recruiting Station, Subic Bay Naval Base Philippines. He completed Recruit Training at Recruit Training Center, San Diego followed by the Seaman Apprenticeship Program at Navy Training Center, San Diego, California.
His initial sea tour was onboard the USS CIMARRON (AO-177), where he started as Deck Seaman Apprentice and completed his tour as Storekeeper Second Class Petty Officer. He then reported as Leading Petty Officer onboard the STEADFAST (AFDM-14) and was named “Sailor of the Year.” His later sea duty assignments include Material, Aviation Support and Stock Control Divisions Leading Chief Petty Officer onboard the USS BOXER (LHD-4); Supply Department Leading Chief Petty Officer and acting Command Master Chief onboard the USS PRINCETON (CG-59); Maintenance and Material Management (3M) Systems Coordinator, Readiness Divisions Leading Chief Petty Officer and acting Command Master Chief onboard the USS MAKIN ISLAND (LHD-8).
His shore assignments include Independent Storekeeper at Naval Pacific Meteorology and Oceanography Facility San Diego, Recruiter-in-Charge of Navy Recruiting Station Mira Mesa and subsequently the Command Master Chief at Navy Recruiting District San Diego.
He was selected into the Command Master Chief Program and is currently assigned to USS BUNKER HILL (CG-52).
Master Chief Santiago is a graduate of U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 135-Brown Group) and Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 97). His personal awards include: Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Nine awards) and various unit and campaign awards. He is qualified to wear the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist pins. Master Chief Santiago holds a degree in Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering.
