CAPT Shea S. Thompson
Commanding Officer

Capt. Shea S. Thompson was raised in San Marcos, California.  He received his commission from the United States Naval Academy in 1997.His first sea tour was aboard USS George Philip (FFG 12) from 1998-2000 where he served as the damage control assistant and first lieutenant. In 2000, he transferred to USS Cape St. George (CG 71) and served as the strike officer and navigator until 2002. From 2004-2007 he served aboard USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53) as the weapons officer and combat systems officer.

He began his previous sea tour aboard USS Chaffee (DDG 90) in 2013 serving first as the executive officer and then as commanding officer until 2016.
Capt. Thompson’s shore duty assignments include the Naval Postgraduate School, where he earned a master’s degree in financial management; ballistic missile defense syndicate lead at Tactical Training Group, Pacific; ballistic missile defense training officer at U.S. 3rd Fleet; joint interface control officer at U.S. European Command (J3) Headquarters; C4ISR operations branch chief at U.S. Strategic Command, Joint Force Component Command Global Strike (J6); and N8/9 branch head at Surface and Mine Warfare Development Center Headquarters.
Capt. Thompson assumed command of the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill (CG 52) in May 2020.
Capt. Thompson’s awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards); Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and service awards.
