DESRON 23 Recognizes Sailors of the Quarter

SAN DIEGO – Commander, Destroyer Squadron Two Three (DESRON 23) named the recipients of the DESRON 23 Senior Sailor, Junior Sailor and Bluejacket of the Quarter Award for Fourth Quarter, FY-2014, via official naval message Oct. 14.

Fire Controlman 1st Class Eric J. Maier, assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Sampson (DDG 102), was named as the DESRON 23 Senior Sailor of the Quarter.

Personnel Specialist 2nd Class Kyle L. Portney, assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53), was named as the DESRON 23 Junior Sailor of the Quarter.

Quartermaster Seaman Spencer A. Strain, also assigned to John Paul Jones, was named as the DESRON 23 Bluejacket of the Quarter.

“My most sincere praise and gratitude is extended to all of our outstanding candidates,” said Capt. Paul H. Hougue Jr., Commander, DESRON 23.  “All nominees epitomize our Navy’s core values, and are outstanding representatives of their respective command, DESRON 23, and our nation.”
