Media Advisory - Stennis Strike Group to Stop in San Diego

SAN DIEGO – USS John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group (JCSCSG) will arrive in San Diego Aug. 10th to disembark Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9 and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 21 after a seven-month deployment to the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR).

JCSSG is returning from a regularly scheduled deployment to the Indo-Asia Pacific, flying more than 19,600 hours and steaming more than 66,800 miles.

The Strike Group consists of Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), CVW-9, DESRON 21, and Ticonderoga class guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53). Stennis, with the Air Wing and DESRON’s command staff embarked, will arrive on Aug 10. DESRON 21 Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyers USS Stockdale (DDG 106) and USS William P. Lawrence (DDG 110) will return to San Diego Aug. 11.

CVW-9 consists of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 71 and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 14, both based in San Diego; Fleet Logistics Support Squadron (VRC) 30 of San Diego, California; Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 112 of Point Mugu, California; Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 133 of Whidbey Island, Washington and Strike Fighter Squadrons (VFA) 151, 97, 41 and 14 of Lemoore, California.

The USS John C. Stennis’ (CVN 74) stop in San Diego will be brief before returning to her homeport at Naval Base Kitsap in Bremerton, Wash.
