CAPT Steven DeMoss
Deputy Commodore (December 2017 - September 2019)

Captain Steve DeMoss is a California native, and raised in Austin, Texas. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. DeMoss earned a Master’s Degree from the U.S. Naval War College, and holds a National Security Affairs sub-specialty for the Asia Pacific.​

DeMoss’ shipboard assignments include tours in USS THACH (FFG 43), USS JOHN S McCAIN (DDG 56), USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54), and USS ANTIETAM (CG 54). While assigned as Surface Operations Officer in Battle Force U.S. SEVENTH Fleet (CTF 70), he was permanently embarked in USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63) and then was part of the staff that brought USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) to Yokosuka, Japan.

From 2006 to 2008 he commanded USS GUARDIAN (MCM 5) in Sasebo, Japan during which time the ship completed multiple deployments across the Western Pacific. He also commanded USS McCAMPBELL (DDG 85) in Yokosuka, Japan from 2010 to 2012. Following the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, McCAMPBELL was the first U.S. ship to arrive on scene and begin rendering aid.

Ashore, DeMoss served in Future Shipbuilding Programs in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations and as the Deputy Division Chief for Space and Integrated Air and Missile Defense in U.S. Pacific Command.

His most recent assignment was in Tokyo, Japan as the U.S. Navy’s first Liaison Officer to the Maritime Staff Office in Japan’s Ministry of Defense

Captain DeMoss earned a Master’s Degree from the U.S. Naval War College. He holds a National Security Affairs sub-specialty for the Asia Pacific.
