CMDCM(SW/AW) Claro D. Munar
Command Master Chief (March 2013 - March 2016)

CMDCM (SW/AW) Claro D. Munar is a native of the Philippines and a graduate of the Mapua Institute of Technology, CMDCM(SW/AW) Claro D. Munar entered active duty on February 1989. He attended Recruit Training, followed by Electrician’s Mate “A” school at Great Lakes, IL.
His first duty assignment was on USS DURHAM (LKA-114), where he participated in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. His follow-on tours included USS ACADIA (AD-42), and Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA), San Diego. After SIMA, he executed orders to USS BOXER (LHD-4), where he was promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He transferred to USS BUNKER HILL (CG-52) as Electrical Division LCPO, and was advanced to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He then received orders to USS MOBILE BAY (CG-53), assuming duties as the Engineering Department Leading Chief and deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. That was followed by a tour to Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) San Diego, as Cruiser Ships’ Maintenance Team and Electrical Branch Production LCPO, where he attained the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. In December 2006, Master Chief Munar reported to USS MAKIN ISLAND (LHD-8), as the Engineering Department Leading Chief Petty Officer and assisted in bringing the first 4160V, Gas Turbine/Electric motor driven conventional ship to life. He served as Command Master Chief in USS PINCKNEY (DDG 91) from Nov 2010 to Feb 2013. He reported to Beach Master Unit 1 (BMU 1) in March 2013.
Master Chief Munar was a recipient of the Academic Excellence Award at the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 120 – Khaki), and a graduate of the CMC/COB course (Class 79) in Newport, RI. He earned 5 Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) qualifications on 5 different platforms.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Combat Action Ribbon, and various unit, service and campaign awards.
