CDR Allen Maestas
Executive Officer (June 2012 - May 2013)

Commander Maestas enlisted in 1985 as an Electrician’s Mate.  His first duty was onboard the USS CAVALLA (SSN 684) where he conducted operations in the Pacific in support of national tasking.  Upon the completion of his enlistment, he attended the University of Utah, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.  He was commissioned in November 1995 through the Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL.
CDR Maestas completed his Division Officer tours as Electrical Officer and Damage Control Assistant on board USS HAYLER (DD 997) deploying to the Sixth Fleet as the CDS32 Flagship and Electronics Warfare Officer/OI Division Officer on board USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) supporting Operation Southern Watch in the Persian Gulf.
Following his Division Officer tours CDR Maestas completed a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Materials Science) at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.  After obtaining his post graduate degree, he completed his Department Head tours as the commissioning Operations Officer on board the USS MOMSEN (DDG 92) and the Combat Systems/Force Protection Officer on the staff of Destroyer Squadron Two Eight (CDS 28) deploying in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  While attached to CDS28, he also served as an Individual Augmentee on board the USS VICKSBURG (CG 69) as the planning cell OIC deploying in support of anti-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia.  Finally, he served as the Navigator onboard the USS WASP (LHD 1) where he conducted a surge deployment to the Persian Gulf in support of the maiden combat deployment of the MV-22s into Iraq.
Upon returning from the Persian Gulf, CDR Maestas successfully completed a one-year Individual Augment as the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Hughie and Senior Mentor for the Embedded Training Team (ETT) assigned to the Afghanistan National Army, Jalalabad Garrison.
After returning from Afghanistan, CDR Maestas served on the staff of the Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic (SURFLANT) as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff (ACOS) for Training and Readiness.  While assigned to SURFLANT, he completed his Joint Professional Military Education via correspondence from the Naval War College, graduating with distinction.  Most recently, CDR Maestas completed a GSA to EUCOM where he served in the Joint Operations and Plans-Black Sea/EURASIA Division as a Political-Military Affairs Officer for Russia.  CDR Maestas reported to BMU-1 as Executive Officer in April 2012.
His personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (five), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (two) and various campaign and service medals.
