Executive Officer

CDR Tom Cooper a native Iowan, enlisted in the Navy in 1990. Following Basic Training in Orlando he entered the Navy’s nuclear training pipe-line attending the Nuclear Field A School and Nuclear Power School in Orlando--completing his Mechanical Operators qualification at the S1C prototype in Windsor Locks, CT. Following training, he received orders to the nuclear cruiser BAINBRIDGE (CGN-25). Selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program in 1996 and earned a Bachelors of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Florida in 1999.

At sea, his first Division Officer tours were in USS STOUT (DDG 55) as the Assistant Operations Officer and in USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) as Engineering Auxiliaries DIVO. Department Head tours include Combat Systems Officer in USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7) and as the Main Propulsion Assistant in USS ENTERPRISE. He also completed a XO Special Mission tour as the Auxiliaries Officer in PCU GERALD R. FORD (CVN 78).

Shore duty assignments include an instructor tour as the N74 Steam Engineering Lead at the Surface Warfare Officer School and at AIRPAC N43 as the Maintenance Coordinator in support of USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70). His last tour was in Engineering Assessments Atlantic as a Senior Assessor.

CDR Cooper holds a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S Naval War College and was a Gravely Scholar.
