|CDR Gabriel Thomas Clemens
A native of Ensenada Mexico, Commander Gabe Clemens joined the navy in the summer of 1990 and graduated Boot Camp at San Diego, California. As a graduate from the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) program in 1991, he then attended the University Of San Diego and obtained his Commission and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in January 1996.
His first ship was USS CONSTELLATION (CV 64) serving as the Repair Division Officer, the Electrical Division Officer and finally the Auxiliary Division Officer throughout his two year tour. CONSTELLATION Battle Group deployed to the Northern Arabian Gulf October 1997.
Commander Clemens’ second division officer tour was onboard USS DUBUQUE (LPD 8) in Sasebo, Japan where he served as the Combat Information Center Officer. The DUBUQUE served in a no-notice deployment to the Northern Arabian Gulf from November 1998 through March 1999, and then completed a crew hull swap to the USS JUNEAU (LPD 10) in Sasebo, Japan.
Commander Clemens next attended the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California obtaining a Master of Science Degree in Manpower Analysis.
Commander Clemens’ first department head tour was onboard USS OLDENDORF (DD 972) as the Operations Officer and was part of the Crew Swap program where the crew of the OLDENDORF conducted a crew swap with the USS FLETCHER (DD 992) and completed a deployment in the North Arabian Gulf June 2003 through December 2003.
He then reported aboard COMPHIBRON THREE (CPR -3) as the Force Protection Officer. Following this second department head tour, Commander Clemens was assigned as the Combat Systems Officer at Afloat Training Group Western Pacific (ATGWP) in Yokosuka, Japan.
Following his second tour in Japan, he reported aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) as Assistant Combat Direction Center Officer (ACDCO). On NIMITZ he was part of an 8 month deployment to the North Arabian Gulf, AUG 09 through MAR 10. Commander Clemens then reported aboard the USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6) as the C5I Officer and was a part of a third hull swap with USS ESSEX (LHD 2). He is currently Afloat Training Group Western Pacific's Executive officer.
Commander Clemens’ personal awards include the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards) and a Meritorious Service Medal.
