2011 Sailor of the Year Finalist

  SH1(SW) Tracy R. Thresher

Petty Officer Thresher is a native of Covina, CA. She attended and graduated from Apple Valley High School June 18, 2001. She joined the Navy on October 14, 2000 and was in the Delayed Entry Program (DEP) till June 26, 2001 which she attended Recruit Training in Great lakes, IL. After graduation, she attended Ship Serviceman “A” school, and then reported to her first afloat command on board the USS PEARL HARBOR (LSD-52) in October 2001.

While on board the USS PEARL HARBOR (LSD-52) Petty Officer Thresher was meritoriously advanced to the pay grade of E-4, received 2 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, was selected as Junior Sailor of the Quarter 2nd quarter 2002, and completed 3 Western Pacific deployments. After advancement to Petty Officer Second Class, she held the position of LPO at sea before transferring to Recruit Training Command in December 2005.

She reported to Navy Orientation Recruiting Unit School in Pensacola, FL, and completed the Navy Recruiter Canvasser course of instruction, and earned the NEC 9585. She then reported onboard Navy Recruiting District San Diego and completed 3 successful years of recruiting duty. While on her recruiting tour she was meritoriously advanced to the pay grade of E-6, earned 3 Navy and Marine Corps Medals, earned Recruiter in Charge Qualification, 14 gold wreaths, and won station of the year for fiscal year 2008. She transferred from NRD San Diego, CA, on March 2009.

Petty Officer Thresher reported to Training Support Center, San Diego and attended Journeyman Instructor School and earned the NEC 9502. She then checked into Afloat Training Group San Diego in April 2009. Since checking in SH1 has completed her Afloat Training Specialist (ATS) qualification, Master Training Specialist (MTS) qualification, and was selected as ATG’s Sailor of the Quarter for the 4th quarter 2010 and also for 4th quarter 2011. She held numerous collateral duties as well to include: President of the First Class Association, Master Training Specialist Coordinator, Urinalysis Coordinator and she recently completed DAPA course at TSC. Additionally, Petty Officer Thresher also completed her Associates degree in the spring of 2011.

Her personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), Military Volunteer Service Medal, Recruiter Gold Wreath Award (14 awards), and Enlisted Surface Warfare Insignia.
