Vice Admiral Timothy LaFleur
Commander Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (May 2001 - March 2005)

Vice Admiral Tim LaFleur, U.S. Navy, is a native of Oak Park, Ill. He was commissioned from the Naval Academy in June 1970 with a degree in Naval Science and also earned a Master of Science degree in Financial Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.

Vice Admiral LaFleur reported as Deputy and Chief of Staff, Commander in Chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet; Deputy and Chief of Staff, Western Atlantic Area; and Deputy and Chief of Staff, Ocean Sub-Area Atlantic in November 1999 following a two-year tour as Commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group ONE.

Vice Admiral LaFleur’s initial sea assignment was in USS CONSTANT (MSO 427) where he served as Mine Countermeasures Officer and later as Executive Officer. Upon completion of Destroyer School in August 1973, Vice Admiral LaFleur’s sea assignments included department head tours as Operations Officer in USS HAWKINS (DD 873) and Chief Engineer in USS FORT SNELLING (LSD 30). Subsequent sea assignments included Flag Lieutenant for Commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group FIVE; Executive Officer, USS HEWITT (DD 966); Chief Staff Officer, Destroyer Squadron THIRTY ONE; Commanding Officer, USS ELLIOT (DD 967); Commanding Officer, USS FLINT (AE 32); Commander, Destroyer Squadron SEVENTEEN; and Chief of Staff, SEVENTH Fleet.

Shore tours included duty as a Junior Officer Detailer and Sea Coordinator at the Naval Military Personnel Command; Financial and Personnel Analyst in the Secretary of the Navy’s Office of Program Appraisal; Administrative Aide to the Secretary of the Navy; Pacific Command Branch Chief in the Joint Operations Directorate (J3), Joint Staff; and Executive Assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations. In July 1996, he assumed his first flag assignment as Director, Politico-Military Affairs (N52), OPNAV.

Vice Admiral LaFleur’s personal awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit with four gold stars, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Navy Commendation Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal.
