Captain David Miller
A native of Minnesota, Captain Miller was commissioned in June 1991 at the University of Minnesota under the Naval Reserve Officer’s Training Corps program having received a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Captain Miller previously served as Chief of Staff, Carrier Strike Group ONE from October 2017 – September 2019.
Captain Miller’s previous sea tours were as Commanding Officer, USS REUBEN JAMES (FFG 57) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii from January 2010 to July 2011 and Executive Officer onboard USS INGRAHAM (FFG 61) in Everett, Washington from May 2005 – January 2007. His sea tours also included Assistant Surface Operations Officer on Commander Carrier Strike Group EIGHT / Commander GEORGE WASHINGTON Strike Group staff, Operations Officer in USS THORN (DD 988), Operations Officer (N3) for Commander Destroyer Squadron TWENTY-EIGHT, Fire Control Officer in the commissioning crew of USS COLE (DDG 67), and Electronic Warfare Officer and ASW Officer in USS O’BANNON (DD 987).
Captain Miller’s shore assignments include Commander, Coastal Riverine Group ONE from June 2016 – October 2017, the Joint Staff as the Executive Assistant to the Director of Operations (DJ3), the Navy Staff (OPNAV) as Flag Aide to Director Navy Staff and Deputy Executive Assistant to Deputy CNO for Integration of Capabilities and Resources (N8), and Current Operations Officer on the staff of Commander Naval Surfaces Forces, Atlantic.
Captain Miller graduated from the National War College (NWC) at National Defense University in Washington D.C. in June 2009. He received a Master’s Degree in National Security Strategy and completed his Joint Professional Military Education (JPME II).
Personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (two awards), the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), and Navy Achievement Medal (three awards).
Captain Miller assumed the duties as Commander, Littoral Combat Ship Squadron TWO in November 2019.
