His assignments at sea included duty as Communications Officer in USS TAYLOR (FFG 50) and Main Propulsion Assistant in USS VICKSBURG (CG 69). While on VICKSBURG, he was selected as a CNSL Junior Officer Shiphandler of the Year. Subsequent sea duty assignments included Engineer Officer in USS DONALD COOK (DDG 75) and Commanding Officer of USS HURRICANE (PC 3) and USS SIROCCO (PC 6). His most recent sea duty assignment was Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of USS GONZALEZ (DDG 66).
Assignments ashore include Flag Lieutenant for Commander, Naval Surface Force, Atlantic, Branch Chief for Maritime Operations in the Joint Irregular Warfare Center, Aide de Camp for Commander, U.S. Joint Forces Command, and Branch Head for Destroyers and Future Ship Requirements on the OPNAV staff.
Captain Gantt earned a B.S. in History from the U.S. Naval Academy, and a M.B.A. with concentration in Financial Management from the Naval Postgraduate School. While at NPS he was selected as a Conrad Scholar for excellence in Financial Management. He is a graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College.
Captain Gantt’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), and various service, campaign and unit decorations.
