Captain Kevin M. Tapp began his sea-going career in the U.S. Navy in 1978 as a Quartermaster.  His Active Duty service in the Navy included tours onboard the USS Nitro (AE-23) and USS Mauna Kea (AE-22).  He was hired by Military Sealift Command (MSC) after being honorably discharged in 1982.  From 1982-1999 he served onboard many USNS vessels sailing as Able-Bodied Seaman and Boatswain Mate until obtaining a Third Mate License in 1990, eventually licensing up to Master.  In 1999 he began a career in the U.S. Flag commercial shipping industry working for liner companies in all positions from Third Mate up to Master.  In 2014 Captain Tapp returned to MSC sailing as First Officer and in 2016 began sailing as Master.  He is currently Master of USS PONCE (AFSB(I)15), a hybrid MSC-Navy crewed ship.
