BDOC Overview

BDOC is an intensive, nine-week course of instruction designed to provide foundational classroom training to prospective surface warfare officers.

We provide the highest quality training on subjects including navigation, seamanship, shiphandling, maritime warfare, division officer administration, engineering, damage control, and naval leadership.

The course is administered by Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS) in Newport, RI and is offered in Norfolk, VA and San Diego, CA. SWOS Learning Site Norfolk is comprised of an officer-in-charge (OIC), thirteen lieutenant instructors, and two civilian mariners. Our facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art electronic classrooms and nine Conning Officer Virtual Environment (COVE) shiphandling simulators.
