The Ventura County Coastal area is comforted by a gentle marine influence that creates a year-round, pleasant, "Mediterranean-type" climate with mild and comfortable temperatures. During the summer months, the ambient temperatures are generally about ten degrees cooler than Los Angeles area, while in winter months, the temperatures are warmer than inland California areas.

Directions to Naval Base Ventura County

Route 1: Take the 405 North to the 10 West (10 West will run into Pacific Coast Highway). Follow the Pacific Coast Highway north for approximately 45 miles, past the Point Mugu Naval Air Station, and exit on Port Hueneme Road. Turn left on Port Hueneme Road to Ventura Road. Turn right on Ventura Road and turn left on Sunkist, which will run right onto base. The Sunkist Gate is typically always open.

Route 2: Take the 405 North to 101 North (the Ventura Freeway). The 405/101 transition can be confusing. As you come over the hill from Los Angeles into the San Fernando Valley be sure and stay to the right and carefully follow the freeway sign directions to 101 North. Stay on the 101 North for approximately 45 miles. Take the Victoria Road exit and turn left. Follow Victoria to Channel Islands Boulevard and turn left. Follow Channel Islands Boulevard to Ventura Road and turn right, Sunkist Street Gate will be just ahead on the right.

If you are arriving at LAX and not renting a car, collect your baggage and proceed to the red curbed area which is in the front of the terminal. The Ventura County Airporter shuttle will take you to the Oxnard Airport (about a one hour trip depending on traffic), then take a taxi to the base. You are encouraged to contact the shuttle prior to your arrival and secure a round trip ticket via credit card to ensure a seat on the shuttle and to save money. The last shuttle departs LAX each day at 9:30pm except Saturday, which is 5:30pm. The shuttle is $35.00 one way and $65.00 round trip pre-paid or $35.00 each way without a reservation. If you reserve (strongly recommended) your ticket ahead of time, the driver will have your ticket with him at the airport. They can be contacted at (805) 650-6600. The Roadrunner Express runs 24 hours a day but you must reserve your spot 24 hours in advance. If reservations aren't made, seats are available on a first come, first- serve basis.
