The Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Detachment (CNATT DET) Eglin Air Force Base was established March 14, 2011 as a result of the 2005 congressionally-mandated Base Realignment and Closure that directed all training for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter be based at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. CNATT DET Eglin is a Navy/Marine Corps unit and is responsible for providing technical and maintenance training to Sailors and Marines on the F-35C and F-35B Joint Strick Fighter variants.
Technical and maintenance training is conducted at the Academic Training Center, a 260,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility containing separate spaces for pilot and maintenance training. The maintenance training area consists of electronic classrooms, aircraft system maintenance trainers, weapons load trainers, engine and lift fan trainers, landing gear maintenance trainers, Outer Mold Line Laboratory, integrated power package trainer and ejection systems maintenance trainers. CNATT DET Eglin currently train over 500 Navy and Marine Corps personnel annually on a variety of F-35 systems.
