The airport is 29 miles from the base. Taxi fare from the airport
to Naval Station Newport is approximately $100. Officer Training
Command does not endorse any Taxi service; however be advised that
not all Taxi companies have access to Naval Station Newport.
Taxis without base access authorization can go no further than the
main gate of the Naval Station. If you use a taxi without base
access, you may contact the Command Duty Officer (CDO) at
401‑862‑4321 when you arrive at the Main Gate and the CDO will
arrange for the Duty Driver to pick you up. Only a few Taxi services
are authorized to bring you onto the Naval Station and can therefore
bring you directly to Training Country. Verify with the Taxi
driver or taxi company that the driver can access the base.

Students flown into Boston, MA will need to take a taxi to Naval
Station Newport, which is extremely expensive, and will then be
reimbursed with submission of a receipt. A rental car from the
airport is not authorized unless specifically stated in your
You must be protected by liability insurance for personal injury
of a minimum of $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident, and
$10,000 property damage before you are permitted to operate the
vehicle on the Newport Naval complex. Due to the large number of
students throughout OTC, especially in the summer, parking can be
limited and will be at some distance from your living quarters.
Students are not allowed to utilize staff parking areas.
If driving to Naval Station Newport, the directions below are
provided for your convenience. Use the following as the
destination address: King Hall (291 Kollmeyer St; Newport
RI 02841). You will need to modify the route to use Admiral Kalbfus
Rd to take you to King Hall (Bldg 291) via Gate 1 (Front Gate). OCS
Students see specific instructions below.
From the South (New York, NY):
If you drive to Newport from the south, use Interstate 95 to Exit
3, then Route 138 East across the Newport Bridge (toll of $4.00).
Bear left after the bridge and turn right at the first traffic light
(Admiral Kalbfus Road). Proceed under the highway overpass to the
traffic circle. Continue through the traffic circle (2nd right)
about three-tenths of a mile to Gate 1 of Naval Station, Newport.
You will be required to show government issued ID and your orders to
get onto base. Turn right at the next intersection (Perry Road).
Following the road you will cross over a bridge and come to an
intersection with a four-way stop. You will be required to show
government issued ID and your orders to get onto base. Turn left at
the intersection onto Meyerkord Street. Go straight, passing through
one stop sign. There will be a large football field to your left.
Turn left immediately past the field (intersection of Meyerkord and
Kollmeyer). King Hall, where OTC is located, will be immediately to
your right, with the flagpole across the street. You may park your
car in front of King Hall for check-in and will be given further
instructions where to park your car. The telephone number to the

From the North (Boston, MA):
If you approach Newport from the north, use Interstate 93 to
Route 24 South to Route 114 (West Main Road), continue south to
Coddington Highway (a Burger King will be on the left). Turn right
onto Coddington Highway and proceed approximately 1.6 miles to the
traffic circle. Exit at Admiral Kalbfus Road (first exit on right
out of traffic circle) about three-tenths of a mile to Gate 1 of
Naval Station, Newport. You will be required to show government
issued ID and your orders to get onto base. Turn right at the next
intersection (Perry Road). Following the road you will cross over a

Upon arrival to OTC, check-in wearing appropriate civilian
attire on the Sunday closest to your report date at 0800. Ask
the Base Security for directions for OCS check-in and follow
posted signs that read "OCS Arrivals". This will take you to
Callaghan Hall. Designated parking will be provided.
If arriving in Newport prior to the Sunday report date, you
will need to make your own lodging accommodations as Officer
Candidate School does not have the capability to house students
prior to the designated report date. You can find
lodging information at the bottom of the page.
Officer Development School (ODS), Direct Commission Officer
Indoctrination Course (DCOIC) and Naval Science Institute (NSI)
Upon arrival to OTC, check-in wearing appropriate civilian
attire and report to King Hall, Building 291 Quarter Deck (Main
Entrance). You will be directed to your quarters (room)
and will be given additional guidance on Sunday afternoon.
Lodging in King Hall is available after 1600 on Friday.
Do not arrive before this time. Follow the arrival time as
stated in your orders. The first event begins Sunday afternoon
at approximately 1300. If you have questions understanding
your orders, contact your recruiter or OTC Admin Support at
401-841-2264 (during normal business hours). If you are
going to be late, contact the OTCN Command Duty Officer (CDO) at
Limited Duty Officer/Chief Warrant Officer (LDO/CWO)
- LDO and CWO students reside in the Navy Gateway Inns and
Suites (NGIS) or the Newport Chalet on board Naval Station
(NAVSTA) Newport during the four-week LDO/CWO Academy course.
- Upon arrival at NAVSTA Newport, and prior to checking in at
NGIS, report to King Hall (Building 291) Quarter Deck and have
the watch stamp your orders. Civilian attire is authorized at
check-in. If commuting by cab, we suggest that you retain the
cab during your check in at King Hall, as your room location is
not in proximity to King Hall.
- Report to the NGIS Front Desk (Building 1312) located at 1312
Meyerkord Avenue for your room assignment.
- NGIS check-in is at 1500 on Sunday, the day before your class
convening date. If your class begins on a Tuesday due to a
holiday, your NGIS check-in will be on Monday at 1500.
- If you are reporting to OTC Newport on a Saturday, we need
your help. This also applies to the classes starting on a
Tuesday after a holiday. Please call the NGIS front desk at
(401) 841-7900 and request to check-in a day early. You will
need to inform them that you are attending the LDO and CWO
