Officer Development School

*** IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ ***
ODS class 20040 will execute as scheduled. Please note that the graduation date for this class is 7 May, vice 8 May 2020; please generate Orders accordingly. Guidance is being developed locally concerning reporting instructions for students as well as mitigations that will be put in place to minimize COVID-19 exposure to staff and students at Officer Training Command. Officer Training Command (OTC) expects restrictions placed on personnel residing in “COVID-19 hot-spots” to affect the number of students authorized to report to training. This situation may create a backlog of students displaced from ODS class 20040, both active and SELRES, who will need to be registered for a future ODS class. Please work to schedule students in future classes (20050 and beyond), and let OTC know if you are having quota issues registering your students. We will work to accommodate as we can, but please realize the peak utilization for ODS is the period of May through September. Additional guidance will be provided soonest with reporting instructions.

If you have any questions, please consult the information included in the ODS website, contact the ODS Deputy Director at (401) 841-3345, Mon. – Fri. from 0800-1600 for ODS matters only, or email us at: OTC_Admin@navy.mil. For emergency issues or problems with check-in after hours and on weekends contact the Command Duty Officer (CDO) at (401) 862-4321.

Welcome aboard,

Welcome to Officer Development School! ODS is one of five officer accession programs operated at Officer Training Command Newport (OTC), and is the foundation for your success as a member of the Naval Officer Corps. The course is both comprehensive and intense, and is designed to facilitate the introduction to your responsibilities as a naval officer. ODS is physically demanding, but will also mentally challenge you as you learn about different aspects of the United States Navy including military structure, traditions and customs, the legal system, and finally, military etiquette. The website addresses check-in procedures, lodging, messing, transportation, uniforms and various other topics.

We look forward to your arrival. Report to the quarterdeck (lobby) of King Hall (Bldg. 291) in appropriate business casual civilian attire.  The first evolution occurs Sunday afternoon at approximately 1300. If you have any questions, please consult the information contained in the ODS website, contact the ODS Deputy Director at (401) 841-3345, Mon. – Fri. from 0800-1600 for ODS matters only, or email us at: OTC_Admin@navy.mil. For emergency issues or problems with check-in after hours and on weekends contact the Command Duty Officer (CDO) at (401) 862-4321.

Sincerely,
CAPT Hazenberg
