In 2003, initial enlisted and
officer accession training, except for the Naval Academy, was
consolidated under a single command structure-Naval Service Training
Naval Service Training Command (NSTC) is an Echelon III command led
by a one-star Admiral in Naval Station
Great Lakes, and reporting to Naval Education and Training Command
in Pensacola, Florida.
This realignment is designed to ensure initial Navy training is as
effective as possible and responsive to changing fleet requirements.
Placing these programs under a single command enables the sharing of
best practices and facilitates the consistent application of
training policy across all accession programs.
In recent years, recruit training has averaged more than 40,000 new
sailors each year. Our officer programs contribute approximately
4,500 newly commissioned ensigns each year.
