Commercial Virtual Remote (CVR) Environment

DoD's Microsoft 0365 Remote Capability

In response to the COVID-19 National Emergency Declaration, Department of Defense is moving towards a large scale telework posture-which has created an unprecedented demand on DoD's networks. The DoD Cloud Computing Program Office (CCPO) is leading the technical implementation of the Commercial Virtual Remote (CVR) Environment, which will provide DoD teleworkers with Microsoft Office 365 (O365) to facilitate continuity of operations. The CVR Environment will consist of content generation and collaboration tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, that are integrated with Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage capability. The CVR Environment is actively being launched and will be available to the entire Department in the next few weeks through the duration of the National Emergency. Thank you for your patience as we roll out this capability.

CVR Support:

The CVR team has deployed a CAC-enabled an account self-service portal that allows users to:

1. Reset Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
2. Reset password
3. Re-enable account

Users must still update their CAC e-mail to match their existing .mil, .gov, or DoD-controlled .edu e-mail address. CVR will not send invites/resets to other addresses.

For additional instructions on how to manage your CVR Account, please see the
CVR Login Guide.

Additional information about CVR and resources to get started are listed below. Please read them carefully. If these resources do not answer your questions or you require technical support, click below to open a support request.

CVR Environment Key Highlights:

  • Cost: The CVR Environment will be available to you at no cost.
  • Security: DoD CIO worked with Department cybersecurity experts and our commercial partners to ensure that the right cybersecurity and monitoring capabilities are in place for the CVR Environment.
  • Authorization: The CVR Environment is approved for use up to IL2 by DCIO CS.
  • Timeline: We are able to onboard approximately 250,000 users per day and are currently developing an order of operations to prioritize what order organizations will receive the CVR Environment. The Military Departments, Services, Joint Staff, and Agency CIOs will request and inform onboarding priorities to the DoD CIO. DAFA organizations will be represented by the DoD CIO's office. Organization and sub-organization data elements within milConnect personnel profiles will be used as authoritative data elements to group individuals with their migrating organizations.
  • Please Note: CVR is a Microsoft provided service. Please refrain from contacting NMCI or ONE-Net Helpdesks for CVR related issues as they will not be able to provide support. Support links are listed below. Additional customer support will be provided by each Navy SYSCOM and administered by NAVY 311. Please continue to check back on this page for additional details as they are updated in the coming week.
