Commanding Officer's Welcome Letter
On behalf of the men and women of Naval Computer and
Telecommunications Area Master Station, Pacific (NCTAMS PAC), I would like to
extend a warm and sincere Aloha!
NCTAMS PAC assures command and control (C2) and provides
vital Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I)
Warfighting support to Naval, Joint, Agency, and Coalition Forces afloat and
ashore in the Pacific and Indian Ocean areas of operation. Our mission is critical to Navy Information
Warfare and the Great Power Competitions in this region.
The Command is largely located at the Joint Base Pearl
Harbor – Hickam (JBPHH) Wahiawa Annex on the island of Oahu, with outlying
departments at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam (Makalapa) and Camp H. M.
Smith. The NCTAMS PAC family is roughly
700 strong and we welcome your addition to our magnificent team.
I encourage you to contact your sponsor at the earliest
opportunity to discuss your transfer to NCTAMS PAC and to ask any questions you
might have. If you do not have a sponsor
assigned, e-mail the Sponsor Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or feel
free to call COMM 808-653-1119 or 808-653-1119 to inquire about your
sponsor. In addition, the Command
Ombudsman may be reached by e-mail at email@example.com.
If family members will accompany you, it is important that
you notify your sponsor. Provide your
sponsor with a letter or e-mail with information about your family size and how
many bedrooms you desire in a residence.
Your sponsor will be able to assist you in connecting with base housing
or civilian housing options. As a
service to all Command-sponsored families, upon request, family housing will
provide refrigerators and stoves for those who reside on base. If you are able to reside on base, you are
encouraged to use these appliances and consider not shipping your major
appliances to Hawaii. Family housing no
longer provides washers and dryers, so you will have to bring your own or
purchase them once you arrive. All other
temporary furniture support is provided for a maximum of 90 days. Information about the base and surrounding
cities is available on line at www.greatlifehawaii.com and
Because Hawaii is a high cost of living area, I strongly
encourage you to plan accordingly to cover PCS costs upfront: hotel, rental
car, housing and utilities expenses. Additionally, if possible, I suggest you
ship your privately owned vehicle (POV) at least 30 days prior to your transfer
to Hawaii, due to high rental car costs.
Some NCTAMS PAC Departments are not near Wahiawa, but are widely
dispersed on the island of Oahu, so privately owned transportation is
recommended. To obtain the shipping
status of your POV you may log onto the website and access www.pcsmypov.com.
You will be required to enter your confirmation number or shipping instruction
Hawaii has strict regulations for dogs, cats, and other
pets. No dogs, cats, or other pets may
be granted entry into the state unless certain, specific requirements are met,
including such pre-shipment requirements as current (recent) blood tests (for
rabies), health certificates, and vaccinations.
If all requirements are met prior to arrival (some prerequisites may
require up to 120 days lead time), you may not be required to quarantine your
pet. Additional information can be found at the following website:
The USO Aloha Lounge is available at the airport for your
convenience in the event you need to wait for ground transportation following
your arrival. In the unlikely event you are not met at the airport, call the
Quarterdeck and transportation will be provided. Any difficulties or changes experienced prior
to arriving on the island (i.e. order modification, flight dates or times,
etc.) may be easily adjusted by contacting your sponsor or by notifying the
Officer of the Deck at the Quarterdeck, COMM 808-653-5385/5386 or DSN
I firmly believe that your tour at NCTAMS PAC will be both
personally gratifying and a professionally challenging and rewarding
I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you aboard in
CAPT B. E. BRASWELL
