Breastfeeding in the Navy
Breastfeeding is an important choice all new mothers must make.  For those Sailors who choose to continue breastfeeding or pumping when they return to duty, Navy is here to help by providing breastfeeding resources and clean, private lactation rooms.
The resources below can help you…
-   Learn what Navy’s policy is on breastfeeding and lactation rooms
-   Better understand why breastfeeding is medically recommended, cost-effective and supports command readiness
-   Set up a lactation room or Nursing Mothers Program at your own command

UPDATE TO BUMEDINST 6000.14B - supercedes guidance in OPNAVINST 6000.1D (in revision)

Commands must ensure that lactation rooms have ready access to running water for hand washing and pump equipment cleaning NEAR OR WITHIN the same room as the lactation room.  The lactation room must also have electrical outlets and be located within a reasonable proximity of the workspace.

Effective immediately, optional wear of nursing t-shirts is authorized for nursing Sailors (excluding shipboard and operational clothing environments).
Please refer to the above NAVADMIN for additional guidance.
