Since standing up in 1998 in Millington, TN, Navy Personnel Command has gone through many organizational changes always working to better serve Sailors in the fleet. Some of the bigger events that have happened include assignments based on classification, the digitization of personnel records, the dissolution and reinstatement of the ratings system, and, of course, the flood of 2010.
NPC’s primary mission is to “Man the Fleet,” to support the Navy’s manpower needs by assigning the right Sailor in the right job at the right time. The command is involved with Sailors everyday throughout their careers and lifetime, providing support through a full-spectrum of programs and services.
As we look back on our past, we are mindful of the future. Just as we’ve evolved in the past to meet our Sailors’ needs, we are transforming now to better empower Sailors and provide them greater control over their careers.
October 1, 2018, Navy Personnel Command celebrates its 20th anniversary in Millington. This page recognizes that anniversary and the history of NPC.
