Reserve Space Cadre
 

Community Overview: The Navy Space Cadre is a cross-functional community of professionals whose core space competencies uniquely position them to manage space resources while concurrently protecting Navy space equities. The space cadre workforce is comprised of active duty, reserve from all designators who possess significant and substantive space-oriented education and/or experience. Their robust body of expertise is leveraged across the complete lifecycle of activities that support and enable the full spectrum of Navy and joint military operations. As a critical component of the Navy's Information Warfare Community (IWC), the Space Cadre's technical proficiency enables it to fill vital roles within the IWC architecture that enhance warfighting capabilities. While they are critically aligned to Navy and DoD-wide initiatives to operationalize space, the Space Cadre are equally essential to the Navy's efforts to evaluate space capabilities, set priorities, and support acquisitions.

Recognizing the value of its space workforce, the Navy is committed to recruiting, retaining, and developing skilled practitioners to fill vital space billets. The ability of the Navy to ensure that both Navy needs are met and officers' assignments align with their respective career progressions, is critical to the success of space enterprise management. To further facilitate this, space professionals are provided ample opportunity to refine their space tradecraft and enhance their knowledge base. Ultimately, professional development and career placement initiatives ensure that space knowledge is integrated into fleet operations and operational experiences permeate the Space Cadre's membership. 

Space Cadre membership is ONLY
achieved through attainment of an associated Additional Qualification Designator (AQD) that signifies a level of space competence based upon a combination of education and experience. Space-related AQDs are designated by the VS or VR prefixes followed by a number. VS-prefixed AQDs identify Space Operations experience, while VR-prefixed AQDs identify Space Acquisition experience.
